Did you endure the September 26th Nor' Easter?

Hopefully everyone made out for the better after our first Nor' Easter of the 2026 and 2027 Season. After a week long storm it felt like event thought he true storm only lasted a few days but it began feeding clouds and grey the week prior. We were able to score some amazing surf after a long summer with a lack of tropical activity. I'm sure you've seen the multiple posts about flood heights and El Nino' fueling possible epic winter for coastal storms. That's not what we are hear for to talk about today. I started thinking about how many new owners we have down the shore with the last 10 years being pretty quiet with coastal flooding. Some of you may not be ready for this, for many of us its a way of life especially the locals. I'm going to list some tips so you're ready for the next event especially if its a second home and you are unable to make it prior.
Keep batteries and flammables away from flood waters. With all of todays ebikes and golf carts salt water and batteries do not mix especially if you left with your golf cart plugged in. Same goes true for a fuel can sitting on the ground that could get knocked over from flood waters.
Make clean up easy - raise everything you can if you get water in the house or garage use cinder blocks, leave a little gap between the wall and the block so water can flow and not get trapped. Don't leave boxes or anything that can suck up moisture on the ground. Leave your floor area that may get water in a state that it can come in and come back out hopefully drying itself out.
Dehumidifiers can save the day if they can be installed properly and automatically drain in areas that may get flood waters. No one likes mold!
Your yard - metal rusts store it higher, don't pile things up that may get wet and rot or mold, keep things secured so they don't float away.
Tides - know them and realize that what is posted in the tide app is for normal high tide and moon. Unless your running a special local app its not going to factor in storm surge and rain .
Parking- Know where high ground is and put your car there its better safe than sorry. Also don't drive through it, its going to ruin your vehicle its salt water.
Boil your water possibly if you drink and there is major flooding in the area its better safe than sorry.
Relax - Most storms the tide comes in and the tide goes out our geography is made to take water and drain water. Humans like to pave over it and allow it run easier. Most of the social media posts are specific areas that flood regularly. Unless the authorities are calling for an evacuation just wait for the tides to recede to go about your business and plan ahead.
